Taking the polar bear plunge

Frigid temperatures and a sheet of ice did not deter several hundred brave souls from attending the 9th annual Toronto Polar Bear Dip at Sunnyside Beach on New Year’s Day. Organizers just cleared the ice on Lake Ontario to make way for the 30 second plunge into the 1 degree water. At the time of the dip, swimmers had raised $32,000 for Habitat for Humanity with the goal of making it to $40,000. No appendages were harmed or frozen off during the making of this event.
