Ai Weiwei’s Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads beautify Nathan Phillips Square

In anticipation of Ai Weiwei‘s According to What? exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads sculptures are installed in the Nathan Phillips Square reflecting pool. The 12 bronze animal heads stand approximately 10 feet tall and represent the Chinese Zodiac sculptures that once stood in the gardens of Yuan Ming Yuan before being looted. These over-sized replicas of the original stolen pieces are meant to bring attention to the issues of looting and repatriation while continuing to examine Ai Weiwei’s exploration into copies.
